On Tuesday evening in ETV (Estonian national public television station) aired tv-show „Foorum“ (a political talk-show), where a Propastop volunteer Andres Lember participated as an expert. The second expert was Erki Bahovski, who is a chief editor of foreign and security policy journal „Diplomaatia“. The show focused on freshly published Estonian Internal Security Service annual review. Propastop has also posted some paragraphs from this report. Topics under discussion were of Russian influence activities and security issues in general. Guests on the show were Minister of the Interior Andres Anvelt and members of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) Eerik-Niiles Kross, Mart Helme and Jaanus Karilaid.
Topics under discussion were e.g. whether to restrict Russian-minded media outlets in Estonia and what impact could it have on spreading of propaganda. The main result of this discussion was that this measure would be ineffective and probably would spread the viewability of those channels.
Propastop’s view is (as also said on the show) that propaganda cannot be fought against. We believe that the best result in diminishing its effects is to educate the target group – to notice propaganda, know general techniques of influencing activities and understanding the reasons behind them.
