In our August picture game, we asked where the tower in the photo was located.
Answer: The Petřín Lookout Tower in Prague, also known as a smaller replica of the Eiffel Tower. The photo was taken by Jan Řežáb, who shared the solar eclipse image on X.
How we solved it: As usual, we began with a reverse image search using Google Lens. The easiest way to do this is through the Google Chrome browser.
If you are lucky, the search will immediately point you towards Prague’s Petřín Tower. If not, you may be misled by results showing the Eiffel Tower or sent looking for the photo in Spain.
The Eiffel Tower can be ruled out because the top of the structure has a different shape. Nor can any matching image actually be found in Spain. This brings us back to the Petřín Tower in Prague.
To confirm that it is indeed the Petřín Tower, we open a map application, such as Google Maps, and examine the surrounding area, as several smaller towers are also visible in the photo.
A quick look at the map reveals the corresponding building: the Cathedral of Saint Lawrence, which belongs to the Old Catholic Church in the Czech Republic.
Let’s also try using AI to identify the location shown in the image
As Copilot is widely used in Estonia, including in schools, we decided to test it.
In its final paragraph, Copilot suggests: “At first glance, the tower somewhat resembles Prague’s Petřín Lookout Tower or another communications tower with a similar structure. However, this is only a hypothesis, not a definitive identification.”
From there, all we need to do is identify the neighbouring building.
