In July’s picture game, we asked you to identify the place shown in a drone photo.

The correct answer
The photo shows Kolde Selver in the Põhja-Tallinn district of Tallinn.
Google coordinates: 59°26’23.2″N 24°42’24.3″E

How we solved it
The Selver logo visible in the photo provides the key clue: the location must be close to one of the chain’s stores. Since there are more than 50 Selver stores in Estonia, finding them all in Google Maps and checking each one individually in Street View would be a time-consuming process. The nearby four-lane road helps narrow down the options.
Artificial intelligence can make this kind of manual work easier. However, AI answers should never be taken at face value and must always be checked by a human. Otherwise, instead of Selver, you might end up with a Rimi store or a completely random Selver address, as Gemini did in our test.
This month’s picture game was unusual because AI actually managed to suggest the correct answer. In previous rounds, it had never found the right location. We also tried using AI to solve the June and March picture games.
The most capable searcher, or perhaps simply a blind hen that happened to stumble upon the truth, turned out to be Google’s AI-assisted search.

This may have been either a lucky coincidence or a sign that AI is becoming more capable. We did not use any paid AI tools to solve the puzzle, because we want participants to be able to try all the tools themselves.
